CERVO Mountain Resort

Making time for the journey.

In Zermatt, an olfactory identity explores the relationship between travel, the Alpine landscape and time for oneself.

01

The question

The resort’s expansion and redesign prompted a reflection on the guest experience. Brand analysis and a conversation with the owner identified an idea of travel connected to discovery and inner reflection.

02

The design direction

A symbolic shift from hunter to nomad guided the olfactory research. Samples developed with the perfumer were selected at a meeting in Florence. The landscape and rituals of a stay provide the setting in which to understand the fragrance.

03

A presence throughout the stay

The work included ambient diffusion systems, a collection of scented objects and a dedicated branding book. The design aim was to accompany the experience and give guests a trace they could encounter again.

A design lesson

In hospitality, the brief also concerns the rhythm of a stay. Arrival, time spent in a place and later recollection ask us to consider how and when a fragrance is encountered.
